Two steps forward, one step back

I had a meeting in the city the other day, and had to park at one of these double rate parking lots ($1 every half hour, instead of the usual $0.50). Thing was, I forgot about that, considered the boring people that were going to be at the meeting, guesstimated 2 hours worth, and so I put down $2 worth of coupons.

As it turned out, the meeting overran by an hour, so I was sure I was going to get a ticket, that carpark was so heavily patrolled (in fact, a parking warden walked off just as I got there). And then the guy that was with me pointed out that I'd also paid half the normal rate.

And there was no parking ticket!

I couldn't believe my luck, I got away with $6 worth of parking and only paid $2. Feeling pretty chuffed, I started for home, but being one of the rare non-city folk in this city-state, I got lost, took a wrong turn, left the ERP zone, was forced to get back in (in order to get home) and the cost of $2.

Guess I celebrated a bit too early, but a win's still a win. I'm still ahead by $2......
